Humbled

I’ve received several notes of thanks over the last couple of weeks. I’m not sure exactly what’s prompted this sudden outpouring because it’s all been about stuff I’ve done over the years, not anything recent.

I’ve tried to always thank privately those who’ve sent something along these lines. I may not always do it though. So, just in case, let me publicly state:

Thank you for saying that anything I do helps. I freely admit, I’m actively trying to help out. I’m still regularly surprised that any of it’s useful. I’m quite humbled by your kind words. I truly appreciate them. I vow to continue to try to be useful. I’ll do my best to earn what you’ve given.

Waves of this sort of stuff come and go, but you certainly -know- (not think) that you’ve helped an enormous number of people over the years, including my unhumble self. People who freely share their hard-won knowledge and expertise the way you do are most of what makes Internet communities so valuable.

This year I became a speaker at SQL Saturday’s and just finished my 4th (about to go on my 5th). I know how much work it is to volunteer as an organizer, create demos, publish blog posts/articles, etc. As fun and rewarding as it is working with SQL Server, it can be quite tiring doing all of this. The least I can do is say “thank you” in an attempt to give credit where credit is due and promote quality work that made a very real positive impact on my career. Come to think of it, I owe you another “thank you”… keep up the great work – it is very much appreciated.
