PASS Evaluation Results

I received my evaluation results this afternoon (thanks so much Marcella). I had about 35 people attend the session and 11 took the time to respond. Overall, the session seems to have been well received. I had one person ding me for finishing early. I did finish early, but then we actually went over time on the Q&A session, so I think it was a wash. For my first time presenting in this type of environment, I find this to be useful feedback. I can see where Andy Warren is coming from in suggesting some questions that would be specifically helpful to the speaker would be nice. The questions are primarily aimed at determining whether or not the topic will be useful next year and whether or not the speaker will be accepted again. I enjoyed the written feedback especially, “You used the word glorious too much.” HA! I’ll work on that.

Here are the results (typos if any, are mine). Values are based on a scale of 1-5:

What is your overall Evaluation of the Session? 4.64
How would you rate the usefulness of the information presented in your day-to-day environment? 4.45
How would you rate the Speaker’s presentation skils? 4.82
How would you rate the Speaker’s knowledge of the subject? 4.82
How would you rate the accurace of the session title, description and experience level to the actual session? 4.82
How would you rate the amount of time allocated to cover the topic/session? 4.27
How would you rate the quality of the presentation materials? 4.64

way to go. those are some great numbers for a first try. i hope that many more sessions come from you in the future, and i look forward to them.

Thanks TJay. All I can say is, I’ve spent years watching great people present and I tried hard to learn as much from them as I could. I know I’ve got a ways to go, but I feel a pretty good sense of accomplishment. Especially when you consider, I didn’t have eleven shills in the audience. I think I had no more than five.

  • Nice scores. Better ratio than I had too.

I had 168 people in the session, and 17 evaluations. Can’t draw much of a conclusion from that.

I got lambasted for the demos that didn’t work.

Did you really? That’s odd. I don’t remember your demo’s not working. I remember when people suggested “fixes” to you and you shook your head and on the fly showed them why their ideas were wrong. Great stuff.

  • The one that didn’t work because I had removed an index to make a different one work. I did only finish the demos on the sunday night. I wrote a comment in one of the demo scripts to go back and change something, and never made the change.

I must have offended someone in the audience. Got scores of 1 and 2 across most questions from one person. Along with comments about being arrogant, condescending and speaking down to the audience.

    Oh well…

  • Nicely done Grant!

Good feedback is pretty hard to find, one of my many ideas/projects is to build a crew of professional evaluators, at least enough to attend first time speakers and give them useful feedback.

    Gail,

I vaguely remember the script, but it sure was a minor part of the whole session.

The person who marked you down was probably one of the idiots who thought he could correct you. You didn’t talk down to the audience even once, let alone come across as condescending and arrogant.

Hey, with nearly 200 people, you’re going to get a higher number of jerks. Don’t sweat it. He/She is just flat out wrong.

    Andy,

Too true. I brought in our local training department when I did a practice run for the session. They provided some pretty good feedback. Unfortunately I forgot some of it when I got on stage. Slow down being the key. I think I went faster. I sure finished my slides in record time.

    Grant,

I attended your VSDB session and did not fill out an eval (sorry working and attending the summit at the same time made for a full schedule). What I can tell you is that you were an enthusiastic speaker who was knowledgable on the subject. For some constructive criticism, I would say that the presentation was not as polished as the other speakers and you should have included more demo content on the GDR (partial projects, variables, vsdbcmd and such). Overall you did a good job, I would attend another session presented by you and I hope you continue to expand your presentation on the subject. Keep up the good work.

    thanks,

    Creighton

    Thank you.

That’s fantastic feedback and very useful. I really appreciate it. I will be working to expand it and enhance it as we finally put the GDR to work.
